If the shoes are still too large, try applying water a second or third time, then heating the same way to shrink your shoes further.
Leather Shoe Straps
At worst, a broken strap can make a shoe utterly unwearable -- Mary Janes, sandals and high heels often feature a functional, not merely ornamental, strap design. A shoe repair shop can replace or restitch wear and tear on broken leather straps to give the shoes a few more months of life -- but the job can also be done by an enterprising individual with a few supplies.
Brush a few drops of leather glue onto the point of the strap surface where the old glue was and let the fresh glue dry until it's tacky. Press the leather straps together and clamp them with large binder clips. Let them sit like this for two days, or until the glue has dried. Trim away the broken threads and frayed, leather pieces in the damaged area of the strap.
Roughen the broken strap edges with sandpaper to help the glue bond to the leather. Rejoin the broken strap edges temporarily with a strip of masking tape that is small enough that it doesn't block your sight of the original stitching holes. Thread a handheld leather needle with size nylon thread and knot the thread ends together tightly. Insert the needle through the strap's original stitching holes, starting from the underside.
Sew across the broken section on the top and bottom strap edges. Extend the stitching several inches past the broken area. Leather upper, lining and sole. New no tags or box Size: Manolo Blahnik elegant single band ecru patent leather high heel sandals with delicate buckled ankle strap.

The band should pull the shoe to a narrower position around your heel, preventing the shoe from slipping off. If the shoe is still too long or extends too high above your foot, consider stuffing the toe with tissue paper or inserting a thicker insole.
Stuff the toe with tissue paper. If the shoe is too big in the toe, a small bundle of tissue paper may prevent the shoe from slipping. Cloth or newspaper may work as well, but you may wish to walk around at home for an hour to see if it is comfortable before leaving the house. Add a thicker insole. If there is a gap between the top of your foot and the shoe, you would probably benefit from a thicker insole.
Insoles can be purchased at shoe stores and some drug stores, or removed from another shoe. They are typically made from rubber or foam. Cut them to fit your shoe if they are too large, using an ordinary pair of scissors.
Remove the existing insole in your shoe first if one is present. This is a thin piece of material which can be lifted out from the inside heel. If the bottom of the shoe seems attached, leave it inside the shoe. Find a cobbler in a location near you. Cobblers are shoe-repair specialists, and may have experience shrinking leather shoes.
Consider requesting estimated costs for this service from several cobblers, since some may be more expensive than others. Ask your local dry cleaners if you cannot find a cobbler. Dry cleaners are accustomed to working with different types of material, including leather, and may know how to shrink your shoes. However, the typical dry cleaning process is intended to avoid shrinking. A cobbler will likely have more expertise.
